Drain Unclogging Tips

Bath Fitter installations tie into your existing plumbing. If you experience a slow or clogged drain, we advise a simple solution that is safe to use in lieu of harsh drain cleaners.

Maintaining Your Shower Drain

Caution: Using any liquid drain cleaners such as Drano or Liquid Plumber may damage the acrylic and void your warranty.

It is recommended that you clean any hair and debris out of the pop-up stopper if you notice that water is taking longer than normal to drain from the tub. If water is still draining slowly, follow these steps to unclog the drain:

Remove the pop-up stopper first.

  1. Pour down a ¼ cup of baking soda.
  2. Pour down a ¼ cup of white vinegar.
  3. After a few moments, pour about 6 gallons of hot water down the drain.
  4. Plunge. (Cover the bottom of the overflow with a rag to get suction).
  5. Repeat this process 4-5 times as needed.

If you see no results from this solution, you may have a problem further down the line and we recommend that a plumber be called to address it. We do not recommend snaking the drain yourself.

Note: A care manual is provided with every new Bath Fitter installation. You may find the latest approved cleaning list and care manual online at www.yourbathfitter.com or you may call our Warranty Department at 1-888-448-7250 to request a copy by mail.
